Delaware and some quick ramblings

17 June 2003
Well I have held out long enough. I have one word. Of course those of you who actually know me, know what that very word is:

DELAWARE.

Yep, we are being relocated. Finally. I suppose someone somewhere decided it was actually a good thing to follow doctor's orders and get us close to Walter Reed in DC. I know it is still over an hour away, but I really like Delaware. It's historic. Which is excellent for someone who works in museums. It is a small place, yet you have big cities right nearby should the mood strike you to see some metropolis sights. There were about four places we could have been placed at in the greater Washington, D.C. area, but to be honest I am glad we were placed where we were. Washington is still a likely threat in all this rubbish going on in today's world, and DE seems a nice safe distance from there. Close, yet away. Good enough for me.

I can't wait to get back into the museum world. I have really missed it immensely. As many years as I have been involved in that career, it feels like such a waste to have been out here totally away from museums the last year and a half. Of course I have been examining Delaware both online and in a couple books we purchased, and have found several places of historic interest. My favourite seems to be Dickinson's Plantation. Yep, it's time I was back in 18th century clothing cooking over a fire! Maybe I can convince them they need a shoemaker on the premises....

So anyhow, it seems we shall be getting out of the Wilds of Colorado sometime by 14. July. We were hoping to push it a bit sooner, which is still a slight possibility, but it looks like we shall be spending both mine and Clare's birthdays here. (we were kind of hoping to spend them back East, but that's ok) Speaking of birthdays, it seems odd I will be turning 31 in less than a week. It's not horrible or anything, but I certainly don't look 31 and I don't really feel like I should be 31. But appropriate I suppose, having an almost six year old daughter and accomplishing what I have thus far.

Father's Day was good this year. At least Greg had off of work and was able to enjoy the day. Clare was up at 6am for some reason so we all began the day fairly early. We headed out for 11am Mass later on since we missed Saturday evening Mass the night before due to wandering around downtown and losing track of time. Spent the rest of the day Sunday hanging out around the house. Greg grilled some delicious boneless pork ribs, those are incredibly addicting by the way. We only eat meat about once a week but those ribs are something else. My attempt at making a cake failed miserably yet again, no matter how precisely I alter my recipe to ensure the altitude doesn't get the better of my baking, it never works. So the cake of course, crumbled to bits and was a heaping mass of, ehm, cake. With loads of frosting thrown on top. I call it "The Altitude Special". It tasted fine but looked horrendous. I will be glad to get back to sea level, let me tell you.

Hmm, oh yes, I got side-tracked about that bloody cake. You people distract me so easily. I was going to talk about what Greg got for his Father's Day presents. He had picked out some Adidas soccer sandals and a book on Delaware. He also got a new wallet (although he wouldn't let us wrap that and began using it a couple weeks ago) and the last item was the Live "Distance to Here" CD, since we only had that one on cassette and have not had a tape player for over a year. So all in all,Father's Day was nice and enjoyed by all. I shall have to put a photo down below for your viewing pleasure. And yes, Greg has no hair. He got a really really bad haircut a week ago and since he has been saying one day he wanted to shave his head, here was the opportunity. It will grow back quickly. Clare was a bit leery at first, but has gotten used to it.

Well even though it is 7.22am, I think I might re-arrange my living room while I wait for Clare to wake up. I would have begun right at 5am when I woke up, but I had to eat first. Those damn steroids. And this course doesn't seem to be helping my sinuses one bit.
