All Saint's Day

2002-11-01
Another Halloween has come and gone. We had to celebrate the trick-or-treating part of it one day early, as for some reason the brilliant people in charge of scheduling the football games here decided Halloween night would be perfect for a match between the Academy and CSU. Therefore trick-or-treating was moved up a night, at least here on the base. So we got bundled up and headed out Wednesday evening at 6pm. In the snow. And the ice. And temps of about 13F. I have never seen snow in October before. Clare decided to be a witch, and finding something suitable for a five year old proved challenging, as most costumes this year, even for the toddler ages mind you, looked like clothing those "ladies of the evening" might indulge in. (IE street walkers, hookers, whatever) Under her witch's costume she was layered in thermals and tights, along with mittens, scarf, coat....we decided to hit the only other clean houses in our cluster (a big number of two) and then walked, or should I say, ice skated to the cluster behind us. At this point the snow was pouring and the ice was horrible, so we jumped in the Jeep and drove from cluster to cluster with Greg and Clare hopping out at each house. We gave in at 7.30 and headed back home, just too cold and icy. She did get some good loot, of which we keep snacking on... I'm such a mean mother, I won't let her have more than one sweet a day. Hence the snacking is left to her Dad and I.

Last night was actually Halloween and still snowing, so we stayed indoors, baked some cupcakes and looked for scary interesting things to watch on the television, nothing was on.

Thus leading to today, All Saint's Day, another snowy, grey and very cold winter-like atmosphere all around. After an afternoon of usual vacuuming and laundry, I decided we will just brave the weather and go out for something to eat. A break is definitely deserved at times.
